Campus Information
The University of Nebraska–Lincoln was chartered as a land-grant university on February 15, 1869, and is a member of the Big Ten Conference, the Big Ten Academic Alliance, and the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities. Nebraska is classified within the Carnegie “R1: Doctoral Universities – Highest Research Activity” category and has been recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for excellence in community engagement. The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

An important part of faculty life at Nebraska is balance. Faculty Affairs prioritizes support for both your professional and personal life, creating a supportive and engaging campus experience.
Professional Life Services
- Events Calendar – helps you stay up to date on and plan for events and programs at the university.
- Faculty/Staff Disability Services – helps you develop a disability-related accommodation plan under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Institutional Equity and Compliance – handles matters that involve discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct.
- International Student and Scholar Office – provides support for international scholars on navigating government paperwork for employment and immigration.
- #NCLUDE – learning groups that offer a space to talk candidly about community and belonging as a part of our everyday interactions.
- Safety at Nebraska – a comprehensive list of all the ways UNL works to protect our campus community. UNL Report is a way to share matters that need to be elevated or addressed; a link is at the bottom of every page on the UNL website.
- University Policies – a comprehensive list of policies searchable by university office.
Personal Life Services
- Campus Recreation – offers weight rooms, exercise equipment, swimming facilities, climbing walls, and studio classes, plus massage and nutrition services. The Outdoor Adventure Center offers equipment rentals.
- Employee Assistance Program – provides a wide variety of personal support services, including confidential, short-term counseling for employees and their immediate family members at no charge.
- Family Support and Care – resources for relationship support, parenting support, lactation support, child care, and elder care.
- HealthierU – UNL's employee wellness program, which promotes healthy living at work and at home.
- Relocating to Lincoln – a collection of resources to help your transition to living in the city of Lincoln.
- University Health Center – provides primary care to faculty, staff, and their dependents who are 19 years or older.
Community Engagement
Engagement with our community stakeholders is fundamental to our land-grant mission. We seek to establish and nurture strong, consistent two-way communication with community members and stakeholder groups, allowing for research and learning collaborations. We aim to concentrate resources and funding to promote engagement responsive to unique local needs.

- Engaging Communities, Expanding Impact Webinar Series – provides information to increase the capacity of faculty, staff, and graduate students in community engagement.
- Community Engagement Events – focuses on community engagement events at UNL and other Big Ten universities.
- Impacts Partner Database – partnership opportunities with organizations that seek to collaborate with UNL faculty, staff, and students.
- Community-University Partnership Intake Form – a survey to help faculty or staff partner with a community or other UNL faculty or staff member.
- Engagement and Outreach Map – an interactive system designed to illustrate the powerful stories of UNL's current and ongoing projects and activities centered around outreach, service, and engagement activities.
- All Things Nebraska – an online platform designed to support researchers in accessing, analyzing, and visualizing data about Nebraska communities.
