New Faculty Resource Guide

Human Resources

Human Resources serves the nearly 6,000 employees that keep our university running. At hr.unl.edu/onboarding, you will find a New Hire Checklist and information to help you on your onboarding journey.

Before Your Start Date

Complete paperwork and plan ahead for life on campus. Obtain necessary credentials like your NUID, TrueYou identity, and NCard. Access Firefly Employee Self Service for your email address and update the "About Me" section. Your department can help you access Canvas (UNL's learning management system) and MyRed (UNL's student information portal).

Your First Week

Attend New Faculty Orientation. Add New Faculty Development Program and Faculty Club Night dates to your calendar. Plan your commute and work your way through the FAQs in the New Employee Field Guide.

Your First Month

Finalize important requirements like enrolling in your health benefits plan and completing required UNL training, including UNL Title IX Training and NU Information Security Fundamentals. Complete the PI Regulatory Onboarding Checklist if you will be transferring grants or contracts to UNL.
